Reflection

Goals

Goal 1:

  • I will develop my people skills and learn how to organize things better to achieve better skills to help me later in life.

  • I was able to achieve this goal because of my interactions with those that I had participate in the league as well as how I had to organize the tournament.

Goal 2:

  • I will help people to enjoy and be involved in the sport of racquetball to achieve more opportunities for the community to play racquetball.

  • I was able to complete this goal as those who participated in the league found more people to play racquetball outside of the tournament.

Outcomes

Outcome 1:

By completing the goal of developing my people and organization skills, I was able to improve those skills in my life. The benefit of this outcome will be evident when I need to use these skills in future jobs.

Outcome 2:

By completing the goal of helping people to enjoy and be involved more with racquetball, I made this happen for the people of Cedar City that were involved in the tournament.. The benefit of this outcome is these people got to be more involved and found new people to participate with.

Key Takeaways

Lessons learned - I believe that I learned to be forward and outgoing. I couldn’t just sit back and expect the flyers to be what got the people to join the league. I had to go out and talk with people about it and show how it could be something that they would like to do. It helped my communication skills and got me out of my comfort zone. It also showed me how to adapt as the original project plan didn’t go as planned and I also had to make adjustments to my tournament after it had started. I also believe that those involved had a great time and enjoyed the experience that they had.

Future plans - This project helped me understand what works best in getting the word out about an event. My first attempt at the project had me creating a lot of flyers and taking them to as many stores across town that would accept them. I was able to get a couple of people interested, but not enough for the proposed league. My second try with the project involved the flyers as well, but included a lot more talking with people and trying to get them to spread the word which worked a lot better. I would definitely use that approach in future projects rather than my original approach. I feel like the experience that I gained helped my ability to be successful with the projects that I will do from now on.
